Liverpool Eating Out Guide | Where to Eat Out in Liverpool

Liverpool has never had it so good when it comes to eating out on a budget, with a city centre packed with reasonably priced restaurants; ideal for eating out while getting to know new friends. Here are our pick of the best:

Chinese

Tokyou Noodle Bar - Berry Street

Tokyou is a little student gem, carving out a reputation for itself as the best budget noodle bar in the city. With prices starting from as little as £4 for a full (huge) meal, Tokyou has a menu designed to cater to all tastes and all budgets. They also produce authentic Japanese, Indonesian and Malaysian dishes that are easily the equal of Liverpool’s more expensive oriental eateries.

Also try: HoSt (upmarket Hope Street noodle bar)

Indian

Master Chef - Renshaw Street

Situated just around the corner from Hatters, Master Chef is one of Liverpool’s favourite curry houses and boasts off-the-beaten track recipes, such as their trademark Badamis and Pepsilaa dishes.

Also try: Maharaja - (London Road)

Italian

San Carlo - Castle Street

Definitely one for a special occasion, the sleek and stylish San Carlo has an electric atmosphere to match its electric blue light scheme, and features a varied, luxurious Italian menu and a trendy bar and lounge area. The creative menu features authentic risottos and pasta dishes alongside other dishes including calf's liver in Venetian sauce, mixed shellfish and fresh pizzas.

Also try: The Quarter (Hope Street Italian restaurant, famed for great pizzas)

Mexican

Tavern – Queens Square

Situated by the Queen Square Bus Station, Tavern is a low-lit feast of south-of-the-border cuisine and offers a relaxed atmosphere alongside hearty portions at reasonable prices. The menu caters to the more adventurous palate, as well as offering burgers and fajitas for the more casual patron. Although Tavern is marginally more expensive than the above restaurants, it certainly offers value for money fare, and will surely add extra sizzle to a stay in Liverpool.

Also try: Savina Restaurant (Duke Street restaurant, slightly more upmarket/expensive)

French

Cafe Rouge

To dine ala Francais, Cafe Rouge is perfect, serving rustic French cuisine and boasting traditional Gallic decor and walls smattered with prints by French artists. The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer. There are two Cafe Rouges in Liverpool; one in The Met Quarter and one in the striking new Liverpool One development. Book a table at Cafe Rouge Liverpool One, Book a table at Cafe Rough Met Quarter

Also try: Bistro Jacques - Hardman Street

Mediterranean

Ego - Hope Street

With a relaxed, continental atmosphere and a similarly laid back Mediterranean menu, Ego provides a perfect atmosphere for a night out or a light lunch alike. The restaurant sits in the heart of Liverpool's 'foodie' district, and because it's right next to the Philharmonic Hall it's possible to combine an evening of music with a great dining experience. In the summertime, sit outside and just soak up the atmosphere in Europe's Capital of Culture. Book a table at Ego

Also try: Tirano (Lark Lane, Aigburth)

Japanese

Yo! Sushi - Liverpool One

Part of the new and uber trendy Liverpool One development, Yo! Sushi is based on the concept of a 'kaiten' (conveyor belt) sushi bar from which customers can help themselves to colour-coded dishes (priced between £1.70 and £5.00) and order their drinks via airline-style call buttons, with all empties simply counted at the end of the meal for the bill. Popular amongst all ages including urban professionals, international globetrotters and students alike, YO! Sushi offers great value for money combined with a fun and colourful atmosphere.
