"Hi all,

We don’t need to tell you what’s going on in the world – you’ve likely read enough elsewhere without having to repeat it here. Clearly, it isn’t viable for the festival to go ahead for this year and, as such, we have been forced to make some difficult decisions.

In short, we’re postponing Sounds from the Other City 2020, and giving ticket holders the opportunity to use their ticket for next year’s event, Sounds from the Other City 2021. Like every postponement, this decision hasn’t been taken lightly – especially given the lack of clear guidance from the Government – but the safety of our communities must come before all else.

It is going to be a difficult year for all of us, but we’re going to do everything we can to come back in our usual spot of Bank Holiday Sunday 2 May 2021, in our usual format: back on Chapel Street, back in the wonderful spaces we all know and love, and curated once more by the people that make SFTOC so special.

We’re a small festival, run with a core skeleton staff – but there are hundreds of people involved in the delivery of the festival: we’re acutely aware of the impact that these events not happening is going to have upon our industry. If it is at all possible, we’d love for you to keep your ticket and use it for SFTOC 2021 – if that’s the case, there’s nothing more you need to do. Of course, these are difficult times, and if you would prefer a refund, you can do so through the following methods at the bottom of this post

Once again, we’d like to thank you for your understanding. This was due to be our 16th year celebrating the Other City, and the entire reason this exists is due to the fantastic Sounds community: our promoters, venues, partners, volunteers, and, of course, the people who turn up and party on, come rain or shine. We’re all heartbroken to have to do this, and hope to see you all back on Chapel Street next year.

Team SFTOC"

"If you purchased your ticket online, our official ticket agent Skiddle will be in touch very soon. If you’re happy to attend the date next year, you do not need to do anything and Skiddle will transfer your tickets to the new date. If this is not the case, the Skiddle email will state your options. Please allow a few days to receive this email, as Skiddle are dealing with an unprecedented number of queries. We urge customers to wait for further information from Skiddle by email, rather than contacting the Skiddle Customer Care team."

Sounds From The Other City Festival has been a firm underground favourite since 2005; championing local promoters and celebrating the off-kilter beauty of Salford, the oft-overlooked ‘other city’ to Manchester.

***** 'The independent soul of the city is safe with Sounds' – The Independent

“Sounds has become one of the country’s foremost festivals showcasing new and emerging talent” Music OMH

“SFTOC itself is the truest representation of what Manchester music is today’” NME

'Its one of my favourite festivals' - Elizabeth Alker, BBC 6 Music

“As anyone who has ever attended it will know, Sounds from the Other City is a much-treasured event, an antidote to the bloated corporate music festivals that loom on the horizon at this time of year” The Skinny

“This annual event is important for local bands, as well as drawing attention to the rejuvenation of an area that is riddled with urban decay. Long may it continue.” Silent Radio

“It’s the spirit of this festival that keeps us all coming back, the sense of celebration that in no way feels forced or phony, the prospect that you might bump into someone you know at any time, swapping stories and making plans to meet that may or may not come off. In so many ways, who you watch is beside the point.” Chimp Magazine
