Bolton News: Tottington talent destined for greatness

SOME performers write thought-provoking lyrics, others write cracking melodies. But Tottington?s Conor Molloy excels at both.

With impeccable songwriting influences such as Paul Heaton and Kirsty MacColl, Conor?s lyrics demonstrate he is a natural born storyteller. Match that with his melodies, which range from the dark and sinister to the chirpy and humorous, and he?s definitely a singer who is destined for great things.

In fact, Heaton quickly recognised this and asked Conor to support him at no less than the Royal Albert Hall last year.

Talent recognises talent and Heaton, one of the most successful singer-songwriters of all time, has declared himself a fan, even selecting one of Conor?s tracks - Teddy Bear - when he guested on Radio 6.

You will understand why if you go along to Conor?s next gig at Salford?s celebrated arts venue, the King's Arms in Salford, on August 25.

But more immediately, you can download his new single, Saturday Night, which is released tomorrow.

In a world of boy bands, one hit wonders and talent show manufactured product, Conor stands out for the quality of his work, his integrity and his intelligently crafted songs

He?s also a thoroughly decent bloke and co-owns Rossendale shop, Simply Vegetarian, with his mum.

To add to his credentials, he?s about to take up a new post as a French teacher at ESSA Academy whose lucky pupils may get the rare opportunity to join an after-school music club run by a professional performer.

Looking to the future, Conor is planning to record and release an album, and go on a winter tour.
