Spring is here and that means something else is more imminent - festival season. Those daffodil shoots and blossom soaked trees might not be the complete catalyst for us losing our heads in muddy fields just yet, but it's time to start thinking about it. And for some of us, that means working out what to wear.

We recently ran down our pick of the men's jackets out there, but beyond that we wanted to get the input of some of the stars of music as to what they wear at festivals. Last year we spoke to people as diverse as Mancunian quintet PINS and Stone Island enthusiasts Smoove & Turrell for their input on what to wear, and this year's first incumbent is star in the ascendant Sam Sure.

His debut EP on legendary imprint Black Butter Records is out now and features the deliriously infectious 'Catching Feelings' (watch the video above), a feel-good dance pop track which ripples with tropical house flavours and bleeds sunshine. It's making us get all dreamy about the summer

He'll be playing Canterbury festival City Sound Project in late May, so ahead of that we pressed Sam on the essential festival garms he packs.

What three items of clothing do you take to every festival?

1. Cheap sunglasses, those £5 shades so you can lose or break them and not be too gutted

2. Trackie bottoms. You need joggers for early morning tent parties and the breakfast run for those bacon butties with extra cheese.

3. Back up kicks. Take your old faithful’s, on-the-way out trainers in case your wellies give you blisters or your first choice shoes get swallowed up by some muddy sludge pit.

Who is your ultimate fashion icon?

Romeo Montague, Baz Luhrmann’s creation with Di Caprio at his best!

And your ultimate wardrobe staple?

White socks.

What's the most expensive item you have bought?

I don't really spend that much on clothes. I'm a sale rail and charity shop rummager. I like things I can get paint on and not care that much. I was given a Burberry Mac but I'm still too scared to wear it, in case someone nicks it or I spill a bowl of porridge down it or something.

What's the item of clothing you're most embarrassed about? (That you'll admit)

I wear girls leggings under my shorts when I play football in the winter, to be fair I wear them in the spring too, I don't like being cold.

Anything annoy you about what people wear at festivals?

Morph suits.. What's the point? Aside from that I reckon anything goes.

Finally you can go on the lash and clothes shopping with any three historical figures with an unlimited budget. Who are you taking and what will you all end up wearing at the end?

Marlon Brando, Jimi Hendrix and Biggie Smalls.

We'd go to Tokyo as I've never been and Japanese people have some sick fashion sense. Then we'd jet to America and rummage through thrift shops from that Macklemore video because they look amazing and we'd end up looking like badass Space Cowboys from a timeless parallel universe.

Sam Sure plays City Sound Project Festival, which takes place Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May.
