Five Of The Best acts at Wireless festival 2017

With so many chart superstars and all round rap dons on display, it wasn't an easy task delivering the five must see acts coming to Finsbury Park this July.

One of the most high profile festivals on the circuit, the genuinely jaw dropping headliners that have come to Wireless Festival over the years is staggering.

These days it's the crème de la crème when it comes to rap, grime and electronic bass beats and the Finsbury Park event is a huge occasion in the festival calendar. In its early incarnation it featured headline slots from the likes of the Strokes and Morrissey but in more recent times it has attracted the biggest names in rap including Jay Z, Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and heaps more.

Taking place this year between Friday 7th - Sunday 9th July, Wireless has once again not shirked in delivering a bumper bill (see the full Wireless 2017 line up) that features the world's biggest artists, as well as a wide range of up and coming acts. Ahead of the all conquering affair in the capital, we've picked the five acts whose bars are set to do all the talking.

Rae Sremmurd

The inescapable 'Black Beatles' is good enough reason alone to see the brothers from Mississippi in action at Wireless. The track that sparked the mannequin challenge, one of 2016's oddest international crazes, is undoubtedly a real crowd pleaser, and thrown into a set that also features 'Swang', 2014's 'No Type' and heaps more, you can't really go wrong. Their Saturday night set looks destined to be a chaotic affair and will undoubtedly set the precedent ahead of Skepta's headline slot later in the night.

The Weeknd

2016's Starboy was an 18 song opus through sex, drugs and, well, more sex and drugs. A true piece of r'n'b perfection, The Weeknd's third album saw the Canadian superstar hook up with Daft Punk on both the record's title track and closer 'I Feel It Coming', whilst Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar also dropped by for fierce collaborations. Bringing the curtain down with a Sunday night headline slot, expect the Weeknd's Wireless show to be a glamorous and seductive affair in what is a rare UK appearance.

Wiley

Having released his 11th studio album, Godfather, earlier this year, Wiley has proven that he has staying power and remains relevant, whilst receiving critical acclaim as well as commercial success. The album successfully bridges the generational gaps in the genre, seamlessly combining traditional grime conventions with the more modern trap sound. A key player in the creation of the genre and with the nickname 'Godfather of Grime', there really is no better incentive to drop by Wiley's set on the Saturday of Wireless.

Noname

Receiving rave reviews from critics and fans, Noname's debut mixtape, Telefone, was released in July 2016. The album discusses hard hitting social and racial issues with gentle saccharine vocals layered over dainty pianos. Classing herself as somewhere between hip hop and jazz rap, the Chicago based artist collaborated with headliner Chance the Rapper on his single 'Lost' - here's hoping we get to see the two collaborate on stage as well.

Stefflon Don

London's new grime queen, Stefflon Don, dropped the Real Ting mixtape late last year. With quick-witted bars, Jamaican patois and a certified swagger the Birmingham-born Londoner is a thrilling performer and has the tunes to back it up. The likes of 'Real Ting' and '16 Shots' are fiercely exhibited in their studio release and makes the rapper's Sunday slot at Wireless Festival 2017 a truly exciting prospect.
