Jamie XX has shared a new home-recorded lockdown collaboration with composer and violinist Georgia Ellery of Jockstrap and Black Country New Road.

The twelve-minute instrumental piece, produced while the pair isolated together during COVID-19 lockdown, was aired by The Late Junction show on BBC Radio 3.

You can listen to it here (around the 56 minute mark).

Speaking about the collaboration, Jamie XX said: "It's been nice to make music without too much pressure... I have this little studio in the basement of my house, a really simple set up with a tape machine we recorded everything to in the end... I didn't want to mess too much with the structure that Georgia had already done... We tried to keep it as uncomplicated as possible... It's rare that i get to make something so different... It's nice to hear something that's so long with so few instruments, it's sort of a winding journey rather than an over thought over arranged thing which is sometimes what I feel I end up doing."

Ellery said: "This was a creative experiment that turned out really well... We spent two days in the studio working on this twelve minute instrumental piece... I recorded some strings to use as a starting point... And i thought it'd be interesting to hear them married to Jamie's production... It's different to anything I've ever made, lots more riffing than usual which was really nice, more freeing than usual."

The session comes off the back of Jamie XX's first solo release in five years, 'Idontknow', and a recent Essential Mix for Radio 1 - his first in almost a decade.

Clearly in the mood for collabs, Jamie XX also recently worked with The Avalanches on a set for NTS radio (listen here), which he described on Instagram as an "actual dream come true”.
