Legendary hip hop producer Madlib, new British jazz lynchpins Kamaal Williams, The Heliocentrics and Carista are all set to appear on the same bill at The Marble Factory at Motion in Bristol. The mouthwatering hip hop and live jazz extravaganza will take place on Saturday 24 August, which is part of a bank holiday weekend.
One of contemporary hip hop's most enigmatic, prolific and in-demand figures, Madlib has worked with the likes of J Dilla, MF Doom, Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, Mos Def, De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, Erykah Badu and the late Mac Miller, with whom Madlib has a full unreleased album with entitled Maclib.
As a result, his DJ appearances are these days all too rare. A devoted jazz fan, he will no doubt be as enthralled as the rest of the audience with live sets by Kamaal Williams and The Heliocentrics.
Talented keys man Henry Wu recalls the classic sounds of pioneering 70s jazz fusion and funk with his Kamaal Williams outfit. The founder of the 22a label and collective he is also one half of another of contemporary UK jazz's brightest lights, Yussef Kamaal. Festival favourites The Heliocentrics are dab hands at moving sizeable audiences and will no doubt bring groove and significant force to proceedings. Eclectic sets are the calling card of Carista and she will have no problem exercising her love of variety at this event.
