As the festival season begins to dry up, we're heading into that time of the year again where live music comes thick and fast. To get the ball rolling we've taken a look at the live music coming up in the month ahead featuring our prestigious golden ticket for the month of September.

If there's anywhere to kick off proceedings then it's in the live music hotbed of Manchester, and the folks down at Now Wave are serving the Manchester ranks just nicely with a flurry of forward thinking acts.

Coming up at the start of the month is the indie pop escapades of Perfume Genius making a rare live appearance on Tuesday 2nd September, followed by Sohn flaunting some electro pop ambience at Gorilla on Wednesday 17th before Woman's Hour engage in some added electronic offerings on Saturday 27th at The Deaf Institute. More on that here.

Also rounding up proceedings from her nationwide tour in Manchester on Thursday 25th is hip hop, R&B and soul sensation Lauryn Hill, the celebrated singer songwriter, who can be found performing Doo Wop below, also heads up two exclusive dates at Brixton's 02 academy on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st and in Birmingham on Tuesday 23rd.

Whilst we're on the topic of urban singer songwriters, Azealia Banks rolls out three UK dates across the month on the back of her latest release Heavy Metal and Reflective (which we covered here) in Glasgow, Manchester and Brixton's 02 Academy

Also appearing in the capital on Wednesday 24th at Alexandra Palace are Mercury Prize winning indie rock band Alt J, who've recently released a new video for their hunger for the pine smash (which we ran the rule over here) ahead of their eagerly anticipated new album.

Golden Ticket

But it's SBTRKT showcasing his new album at Manchester's Albert Hall on Tuesday 30th that rightly takes our golden ticket accolade for the month of September.

We're slightly bending the 'live music' rules here but we can't get enough of the recently released 'New Dorp. New York' featuring Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig (above). The release suggests a slightly different approach by SBTRKT which also features appearances on the album from Warpaint, Koreless, Coriline Polachek and A$AP Ferg making it a prominent month for Manchester in the live music sweeps for the month ahead.
