'I'm really looking forward to playing a different kind of set at PHD in Cardiff. The 80s were an era when I fell in love with club music...it will be a chance to spin some lost classics and seminal gems. It's also a good chance to dress up and share the dancefloor with likeminded party people of all shapes, colours and persuasions'.
Jon Pleased Wimmin
'Thrilled to be playing this great alternative music from the golden 80s, the soundtrack to my teenage years which paved the way for me to play house music and become a resident at the superclub called Cream.'
COMING TOGETHER FOR A RARE NOT TO BE MISSED WARM UP SET, BACK TO BACK - LOCAL LEGENDS CRAIG BARTLETT (LAMERICA), DAVE MILLS (COOL HOUSE), SIMON QUINN, GARETH HOPKINS & DARREN STEWART
On Friday 26 April 2019 legendary DJs Jon Pleased Wimmin, Andy Carroll & Paul Bleasdale invite all you lovers, sinners and angels to an 80s disco with a difference. In the first event of its kind, they come together to celebrate their passion for the music of the 80s and the hedonism and freedom of clubbing days gone by in Cardiff's most glamorous music venue, the Cardiff Exchange Hotel Grand Hall. They'll be dusting off their favourite 80s tracks from their personal record collections and inviting the bewitched and beautiful to dance to a night of Soft Cell, Siouxsie, The Cure, Bowie, New Order and Depeche Mode...with the option of a special overnight 'stay and play' room rate available exclusively to our guests (from just £99 per room - T&Cs apply).
The Poison Heart Disco launches on the anniversary of the opening of New York's landmark Studio 54, and aims to channel the spirit of its legendary predecessor. Studio 54 pushed every boundary, becoming a gateway for the creative freedom of the 1980s. Immortalised as a celebration of deviance, decadence and sexual liberation, Studio 54 forged a new path through the cultural landscape for a dazzling cast of flamboyant party people - and for DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin, a Candy Darling for the 21st century, the party continues in Cardiff.
With its wood panelling, huge chandeliers and the old dragon clock to reminds us ‘Tempus Fugit', the Poison Heart Disco opens a new chapter for this stunning venue. A huge range of international artists, from Van Morrison to Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics and Arctic Monkeys have already graced its stage and 2019 sees the Renaissance of The Grand Hall as Cardiff's most legendary heritage music venue.
