Chuff Fest 2 - Deal, details and headliners DAY TWO

After the tumult of the night before Sunday kicks off with MIDNIGHT CRAWLERS setting us up for the day with a whiskey fuelled traditional blues set which nods firming in acknowledgement of the craft and skill of the likes of Peter Green and John Mayalls Bluesbreakers at the 60s blues scene in general.

With the cobwebs well and truly blown away by the days opening set, SAM MUMMERY is next up with his acoustic country/folk and contemporary pop to gently ease away the remnants of that banging head caused by the excess of the night before. He has a fast growing reputation in the east of Kent as a fabulous song writer so expect to hear a sprinkling of his own compositions amongst some covers.

The size of the stage at The Ocean Rooms will be tested when THE NEW TRADERS take the stage with up to ten members likely to appear. Del Boy and Rodders wont be present but the highly regarded soul and rhythm and blues band are fronted by Mickey Pierce. The beautiful voice and sounds of JASMINE RODGERS will restore some calm to the afternoon at just after 3pm. Jasmine is an immense talent with a family steeped in musical history, her father of course being Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company who have recently and pleasingly reformed for a tour. Jasmines musical style is far removed from her fathers though and will take you on a transcendental ride to a much longed for and sadly all too forgotten world of peace and tranquillity.

Award winning Herne Bay singer/songwriter THOMAS ASHBY will continue the acoustic feel for the afternoon. His debut album Cache will have just been released at the time he appears at Chuff Fest and with his really eclectic mix of influences including the likes of Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Seasick Steve and Elvis Presley his should be a set full of interest and intrigue. Top British songstress Pixie Lott describes Ashby as A terrifically talented artist

Things then get shaken up again, but whilst still maintaining the acoustic feel as HALF TIME TALK, formerly local favourites Ol Strap, perform a set of pop punk originals.

BERT is next up and secured a slot on the Chuff Fest bill after an astonishing performance on Deal Radios Thursday evening show Up Your Chuff back in April. Canterbury based Bert can regularly be seen busking on the streets of the city. A lifelong love and passion for music has seen him develop a wonderfully unique style of playing which you will notice includes playing with the guitar on his lap and using the body of the instrument to provide rhythmic accompaniment. Having just released a full album Echoes From The High Street, Bert is a man not to be missed, you wont have seen anything quite like him before!

Extraordinary London outfit THE 27 have just released their first single Call Me A Friend which was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studio. The video for their single features top model Rhian Sugden .The 27 are already making waves in the in the media with even OK! Magazine saying they were looking forward to one of their gigs at the world famous Borderline venue in London in support of Margo Price the hottest artist in world country music at the moment. The bands wonderful sound is sure to delight everyone and be of particular interest to fans of artists like Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Prepare to be totally mesmerised and spellbound by what is the genius of local progressive rock giants SPLINK. What can be said about this band that hundreds nay thousands of people havent said already. Their set of self- penned originals will blow you away visually as well as audibly. With a whole host of successful festival slots under their belts SPLINK can really be as big as they want to be. At a recent high profile festival in South London I personally found myself stood next to a fella who said - I hope nobody wants a drink, I just heard these guys start up shut the bar and came over for a closer look! nuff said really! Look out for in particular a track named Canterbury utter brilliance!

Damo Fawsett leads rock and blues act BIG RIVER on a return to the area following a successful support slot to Dr Feelgood in June. Fawsett had built something of a global reputation as a guitarist of the highest calibre, supporting and working with many of rock musics top names, before illness placed his career on hold for several years. Following a lengthy period of recuperation he hand-picked the members for Big River that he felt could do justice to modern blues music he wanted to play without losing the feel of the 60s British blues boom. The approach has clearly worked as the band are in massive demand and next in line for the band is a high profile support slot to The Frankie Miller Full House Band on two dates at the famed Half Moon in Putney a week after Chuff Fest. Big River seems the perfect support act for the final band and Sunday headliners for Chuff Fest 2016.

Think back through rock/blues history and probably make an attempt to list a top ten of 60s British songs in genre you would undoubtedly include Sunshine Of Your Love, White Room and I Feel Free, well PETE BROWN wrote all of those plus many more which have now become standards covered by artists far and wide right across the globe from the likes of Eric Clapton to probably some on the bands at this festival. Many of his songs have been used in Hollywood as part of the soundtracks for movies such as Good Fellas and True Lies. In 1984, Pete co-wrote the dramatic links for the Rolling Stones video album Rewind with director Julien Temple. It remains one of the best-selling videos of all time.

He has written songs for an incredibly long ranging and diverse assortment of world famous musicians and artists which reads like a whos who of world music. Included in that list is the co- writing of all the songs on 2015 album Scenes From a Moving Window by his joint headliner blues/country artist KRISSY MATTHEWS.

Hailing from Oxford, Matthews recently completed a 31 date tour that took him the length and breadth of Europe to rave reviews. However, this is nothing new for him as he has been doing similarly extensive tours since the age of 15! At that age he was invited up on stage by one of his heroes the late great Jeff Healey to perform onstage with him for 2 songs. Tragically these would ultimately be the final two songs performed live in the UK by Healey before his untimely passing.

Support slots with the likes of Robben Ford and Walter Trout further widened his audience including 20,000 people at one festival in Portugal. In 2009 he supported Joe Bonamassa at Ronnie Scotts in London. Continued media coverage in all formats continue to raise his profile and the support slots for Tedeschi Trucks Band, Toto and Beth Hart are only going to help his predicted rise to the very top. Still only 23 years of age he definitely has time on his side and what a great honour to have him along with Pete Brown to grace the stage and close what is just the 2nd Chuff Fest.

Again like day one tickets will cost just £5.00 for the day which to be brutally honest is ridiculously cheap. Lord knows what 2017 will bring but I cant imagine it being only a fiver a day!!
