Six bands which if you you were on the ball, you got to see for free. Thereafter, tickets were still around the fiver mark. 'Opening up were trio the Devil And Saint Joseph who provide Americana-esque twang-scapes complete with a laconic vocal delivery and an electronic background wash. Next up were another trio, Mutes, lead by one James Brown. He shares an energy with his more famous namesake but musically, it's screaming guitar songs that sees James occasionally grapple with his instrument whilst rolling about on the floor. Think McCluskey with a twist of shoegaze effects-laden white noise. Pretty ace. Coffee Breath are a new one on me. They number five and feature two guitarists who use mathy tapping techniques whilst the main vocalist when not singing, plays a trumpet. Reference points for me are Foals, early Battles and I would guess they''re admirers of Black Midi. Following these are disgustingly young local trio the Cosmics. They go down a storm with the crowd, some of whom I would pose are too young to be served a drink here tonight. It's speedy garage punk pop with a 60's vibe. I'm quite impressed. Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam, who I'm convinced got their name from a random band name generator app, slow things down a bit. More mature in years and with a bit more dimension than the preceeding band, they prove to be a crowd puller at tonight's event. They are also delighted and I think a bit spooked when someone calls out for them to play "Auto", which they say they hardly ever play and yet, it's netx on theor setlist when it's called out for. And so, to the last act of the night, Black Country trio Table Scraps. Lead vocalist and flying V guitar shredder Scott limps on stage, complete with crutches and some heavy duty leg traction plastering and plays the set sat on a stool. He does not let his unfortunate circumstances dampen the band's rockabilly style grunge pop. All hails to promoters 'This Is Tmrw who brought us tonights event.

                      Hare And Hounds venue information

Situated in the South Birmingham suburb of Kings Heath, the Hare and Hounds has been around since 1820, but has stood in its present form since 1907. This, along with the beautiful and unique Art Nouveau tiles that line the entry hall and staircase, is a major contributing factor to its current Grade II listed status.

Although playing host to local Birmingham legends UB4O's first ever gig in 1979 (recently commemorated by a PRS Music Heritage award and plaque), it is only in the past 7 years that it's really established itself as one of the most important and influential music venues in the country, playing a vital part in nurturing the city's vibrant music and creative community.

The pub boasts two downstairs bars which host regular food evenings, a pub quiz and weekend DJs whilst the two upstairs venues feature live music & club nights spanning jazz, indie, funk, reggae, hip hop, soul, house, DnB & comedy most nights of the week.

Local & National promoters who present shows at the Hare & Hounds include Leftfoot, This Is Tmrw, Birmingham Promoters, Metropolis Music, SJM, AEG, Kililive, Live Nation, Glasswerk, World Unlimited, Cosmic American, Capsule (Supersonic Festival), Moseley Folk Festival, Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival and many more.

All events are 18 + unless stated otherwise.

We're pretty laid back when it comes to dress code but we will refuse entry to anyone in a full tracksuit, shellsuit, joggers or football colours.
