Housed in the three storey building which was once one of the city’s best loved music shops, Sound Control was tightly woven into the city’s musical history long before it opened as a venue in early 2010.

The shop, tucked away on new Wakefield Street by the side of Oxford Road train station, is credited with selling the Gallagher brothers their first guitars as well as being an essential point of call for a whole range of current Manchester musicians including Kid British, The Answering Machine and The Whip.

So it was only fitting then that the building should carry on this musical heritage upon its renovation; albeit in a slightly different way.

Sound Control opened in January 2010 as a three floor bar, club and live venue which in its short lifespan has already elbowed its way to the front of the city’s live and clubbing scene with its impressive specification and varied bookings.

Refusing to be pigeon holed in to any one genre, events manager Ben Taylor has worked hard to attract some huge name live acts and renowned club nights to the venue over the past year.

Now in its second year, the venue looks set to go from strength to strength - with plenty of exciting events planned for the coming year.
