Having seen new albums from the likes of ScHoolboy Q, Mannequin Pussy, and Kim Gordon, new music releases in March 2024 have been nothing short of fantastic.

Essential Listening: House and Techno

Anime Fantasy - David Löhlein

Quite lowkey, a little strangely sultry, and hypnotic, German-based David Löhlein’s strobey new track ‘Anime Fantasy’ is taken from his new EP Planet Vogue, which he called “the purest distillation of the David Löhlein sound that I’ve achieved so far” on Instagram.

About the EP, Löhlein also said creating it felt like “discovering unknown territories, not just in the world of music, but within the depths of my own creativity” with each track being a piece of him.

Oozing with that signature sound his fans know and adore, we're imagining the scenes when he drops it in his sets and... yeah, get us there, front and centre.

Panoramic view - Van Houten

Lo-fi shoegaze rockish band Van Houten (who are definitely named after Milhouse in The Simpsons) released their 8-track debut album The Tallest Room last Friday, and we reckon ‘Panoramic View’ is one of its stand-outs.

A bit psychedelic, very dreamy, and as comforting as a warm bed positioned beside a window on a particularly rainy evening, ‘Panoramic View’ certainly has “comfort song” potential.

The Leeds lads come to Birmingham, Manchester, and Middlesbrough soon, so why not grab a ticket and feel the magic of their new album live?

Essential Listening: Drum & Bass and Jungle

My Type - Emily Makis and Dux n Bass ft. Dread MC, T Man

The ‘Phoneline’, ‘Only You’, and ‘High Note’ singer Emily Makis has linked up with Dux n Bass for a track that’s set to convert new listeners to the skanking, gun-finger-slinging lifestyle.

Ridiculously catchy and memorable, Makis’ vocals shine over a stripped-back instrumental. About the track, Makis said they wanted to “bring some old school flair with jungle, dancehall, and classic DnB elements” while also describing the track as “super tongue in cheek.”

Makis has had an incredible rise, and we can’t wait to see where she goes next.

All The Same - Nubiyan Twist

9-piece UK “afro-jazz” band Nubiyan Twist has given us another taste of their forthcoming fourth album named Find Your Flame, which should be released on the 3rd of May this year.

The band, known for fusing groove-driven sounds with sound system culture and improv, has released a light, colourful, and jazzy piece.

About the song, the band said it "merges broken beat, R&B, and UK jazz influences, crafting a narrative that delves into the yearning for transparency and a renewed sense of identity."
