Weatherall, known for his work on Primal Scream's Screamadelica and for his influence on the acid house movement, passed away in the early hours of Monday 17 February following a pulmonary embolism.
A statement from his management reads:
"We are deeply sorry to announce that Andrew Weatherall, the noted DJ and musician passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday 17th February 2020, at Whipps Cross Hospital, London.
"The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful.
"His family and friends are profoundly saddened by his death and are taking time to gather their thoughts."
A meeting with English house music icon Danny Rampling would set Weatherall's career in motion. One of the DJs at original acid house night, Shoom, he also co-founded the Boys Own fanzine which became the mouthpiece for the newly emerging dance culture.
As well as producing the seminal Primal Scream album, Weatherall was a champion remixer of tracks for the likes of Happy Mondays, New Orderand My Bloody Valentine- with his remix of 'Soon' ranked in the NME's list of 'The 50 Best Remixes Ever'.
Weatherall was also behind nights for the cosmically-minded, like ALFOS (A Love From Outer Space) and 'breathtakingly picturesque' festival Convenanza,and had a hand in the formation of multiple labels, including Sabres of Paradise, Emissions Audio Output and Rotters Golf Club. He also helped to break the Chemical Brothers, signing them to his Junior Boy's Own label.
Weatherall was due to appear at a number of festivals tin 2020 including Inner City Electronic in Leeds and Waterworks in East London.
