Much has been made of London's clubs being reclaimed by property developers, with gentrification blamed for destroying the dance music past (this excellent Freedom of the DJ documentary spotlights it).
But whilst the buildings may be gone the memories are not, no better defined than Trade turning 25. The club that gave us hard house, Tony De Vit and a whole new meaning to afterhours clubbing, first began as the summer of love had slowly turned nasty, with the government waging war on dance music and crippling crime infiltrating the establishments.
Trade reconnected the scene to its gay roots, creating an inclusive environment on the provision of one thing - your attitude was right. At its peak it was celebrated across the music and fashion worlds, with the likes of Bjork, Alexander McQueen, Madonna, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Kylie Minogue and Rupert Everett among the clubbers.
The Sharp Boys - Exclusive Trade Birthday Mix - CLUBZ by Clubz on Mixcloud
To celebrate the club has rounded up many of its illustrious past, with BK, Ian M, Sharp Boys (listen to their Trade Classics mix above) Rachel Auburn and the indomitable Pete Wardman among the guest at Egg London on Sunday 25th October. Head here for Trade 25: The final party tickets.
