Ric Hulme, part of The Cheeky Keys, spotted a call for UK promoters to host dates by Californian trio Ugly Duckling.
?Ugly Duckling posted on their Facebook and Twitter offering UK promoters the chance to snap up the few dates they had spare on their European tour,? Ric said.
?Me and my band members (The Cheeky Keys) are big fans of the group and so I thought it was worth a punt and maybe we could support the band.
?After about a month going back and forth I managed to get a confirmation that Ugly Duckling would love to come and play in Blackpool.?
Not only will Ric and The Cheeky Keys be supporting Ugly Duckling, but the successful booking has inspired him to start up a new promotions? venture Dope Promo and is now planning future events across the North West.
?It was a bit of a chance punt, asking them to play Blackpool ? but it worked, and it?s sparked something more for me, which is great,? Ric added.
Also on the bill on Tuesday, May 12 is two-time world champion turntablist DJ Woody with his audio/visual show, and North West hip hop group Northern Structure.
Ugly Duckling formed in Long Beach 1993, going on to form their own record company a few years later. Their Fresh Mode EP and Journey To Anywhere LP followed and they?ve been touring or recording non-stop since 1999.
A spokesman said: ?The band knows how to make listeners feel good and has, throughout the years, kept their musical authenticity, avoiding the pitfalls of and embarrassment of pop-star ambition.?
