Why you really should be listening to... Khruangbin

Why you really should be listening to... Khruangbin

Musical synergy, sheer simplicity and synchronised dancing are just three reasons why you should give the three piece from Texas a go, but it goes much deeper than that.

There are few artists who you can recommend to pretty much every single person you come across in your life - but Khruangbin are that band, and whether it's your mates, your Mum and Dad, your new boss or the music loving crush you're desperate to impress, the three piece from Texas are a shoo in for unanimous enjoyment.

The band's rather problematic name derives from the Thai for aeroplane, and while it's not the easiest to pronounce (the band themselves shared with us an example of a hilarious misinterpretation they've heard below) - you'll need to get used to saying it at least three times to anyone you're talking to about them.

As a band, Khruangbin have the ability to tap into that 'thing' that makes great music so universally loved, an evocative quality that relaxes you yet makes you feel impassioned, and whether you're knowledgable about the finer points of playing an instrument or not , you can tell that this band have got serious talent in their fingertips.

Their mainly instrumental, Tarantino soundtrack vibe taps into funk, psychedelia, world music and rock - plus with a stage presence and glamorous aesthetic just as alluring as their music, as a live force its impossible to keep your eyes off them.

With two albums to get your teeth stuck into - 2015's The Universe Smiles Upon You, and 2018's Con Todo El Mundo - its certainly not an uphill task to get up to speed, and with summer well and truly in full swing, in a matter of weeks this band will well and truly feature within your heavily rotated jams.

To make the task even easier we've created a small but perfectly performed playlist below to break you in gently.

Like what you hear? You can catch the band at Mostly Jazz, Funk and Soul Weekender in Moseley - tickets are available below.
