Spanish DJ, producer and boss of Eklektisch Edu Imbernon has had another great summer in 2012. The man who has previously released on Get Physical, Trapez and Diynamic, and has remixed everyone from The XX to X-Press 2, is now also nurturing plenty of great new sounds on his own label, with the latest EP coming from Danish producer Sivesgaard.

So too is Edu continuing as resident at Ibiza super club Space, and as such it’s no surprise that he has also been asked to mix and compile the Space Ibiza Compilation later in the year. A fine honour indeed, Edu will offer his own interpretation of what you can hear at Space week in week out, and the mix will no doubt showcase exactly why it is he is such a trusted resident.

But back to less sunny shores now, where Edu plays the Bedrock Party on October 6th at Fire, with John Digweed, Apparat and many more.

How has your year been? What have been some standout highlights and why?
The most special release has been my EP on Get Physical, alongside my good friends Los Suruba. As for remixes, I loved to remix Nicone and Sasha Braemer (Dreamer ), released on Stil Vor Talent.  Musically, it was also very important to mix the Space Ibiza summer compilation. A great challenge and very important to bring my music worldwide.  In terms of gigs I won't forget any of my gigs at Space, and of course my first ever gigs at Amnesia and Florida 135, the oldest club in Spain. Epic!

Has your own taste evolved this year? Have you been making or playing different stuff than normal? Or listening to any exciting new sounds that you can think of?
Always. I’ve spent the summer in Ibiza living with AFFKT, Los Suruba and some other DJ friends, so the summer has been like a melting pot for me. Everyone and everything around me can inspire me. I’m now more inspired than ever, and just waiting to be back in my home studio in Valencia.

What was your aim with the Space compilation? Where and when did you record it?
I recorded it in the beginning of the summer. I really appreciate that they asked me to do this, Space has been really important in my development so it was great to do it.

How was the summer playing there? Do you play differently there than anywhere else?
Now I feel like I'm at home there. I know every single corner of the club and especially of the booth. But still I get nervous before playing there… especially on a closing or opening. Those are always epic nights.

Tell us about your label – what music do you aim to release on it?
I don´t really care about how famous the artist is, but about how good the music is. If it makes me feel and the sound is good, I want it!

Are you keen on showcasing Spanish artists at all? Is that an aim?
Not at all, I’m open to any artist. Borders only exist in our minds, so why should I put them in my label. Music is more global than anything, so let's sign African or Indian artists if they are good!

What’s the Spanish scene like right now, is it healthy?
I think it's better than ever. A new and young generation is doing good music, and moreover they are working very professionally.

Are you the sole person in charge of A&R?
No, my good friend Leo Corella and my manager help me with that.

What should people expect of you in London soon?
A Groovy-tech-house set tinged with great vocals and melodies. Music to dance and to feel.

What else have you got coming up?
New releases on Stil Vor Talent and Culprit will come out soon.

Finally, what do you like to do away from music?
I’m a good cooker... I love spending time in the kitchen preparing good paella. One of the highlights of the season has been our barbecues/paellas at our home in Ibiza before my gigs at Space.
