Jamie XX is the moniker of James Thomas Smith and you'll likely remember him as a key member of The XX, one of the defining dance music groups of the 00's. He jumped into solo work and released his first album We're New here in 2011. He then went on to make In Colour, a phenomenal album that saw him strike out his own artistic identity whilst linking up with his former XX bandmates Romy and Oliver Simm.

We thought we'd take a look at Jamie XX's top five records, which have all had a lasting impact on dance music and most importantly have made us get up and dance.

Gosh

The opening track to 2015's In Colour, Gosh which is a stunning track that features brilliant percussive beats. There's an unsettling feeling throughout and make sure you watch the fantastic music video too. A song that is the embodiment of intensity, it takes a sudden turn into bright and brilliant synths which lifts it to euphoric heights.

Loud Places

Loud Places sees Jamie XX link up with Romy who lends breathtaking vocals to the song. It is Jamie XX's music at its evocative best, the drums feel like they're lifting you high above anyone everyone else. It ultimately ends up feeling celebratory, who could ever resist a dance to this?

Kill Dem

This may be Jamie XX's latest release but it is fair to say that it has already made its mark. All-out vocal attack is the aim of the game on one of his loudest tracks. It feels like there's so much crammed into one space, it's a thrilling listen. A song that was born for the sweatiest rave you can imagine.

Far Nearer

Far Nearer was the debut solo single that Jamie XX released and it would be a statement of just how vibrant his must would go on to become. Some of the hallmarks of his sound are heard in this early track as drum beats swing like a metronome and synths flash like light boxes.

Stranger In A Room

This is another team-up with a former XX member and this time it's the turn of Oliver Sim. He joins Jamie XX on a song which features his vocals ringing out. Every single inch of this song just seems to hit right, it feels perfectly balanced as it doesn't rely on a heavy beat to keep you captivated but a simple yet effective melody.
